In Partnership

the business of faith project is managed by the City Inter-Faith Partnership, which is funded by the Corporation of London and jointly run by the City Church of St Mary Le Bow and St Ethelburga's Centre for Reconciliation and Peace.

The Corporation of London welcomes the business of faith project as part of a programme of initiatives to promote an inclusive and outward-looking City.

Both St Mary Le Bow and St Ethelburga's Centre are situated at the heart of the Square Mile, and their history and founding principles mean they are well placed to carry forward the initiative.

St Mary-le-Bow is a City Church with a rich tradition of promoting inter-faith dialogue through debates and lectures.

St Ethelburga's Centre has a unique place as a well of experience, for the transformation of conflict, as a hub of faiths, a place of encounter and a source of skills.

We also work in collaboration with Charles Russell solicitors, connecting our clients to legal expertise and sector-specific knowledge.

About Us

the business of faith project aims to help businesses and individuals in the City of London to engage with issues of religion and belief in the workplace and in commercial life.

Our approach:

  • we offer professional training on the new Employment Regulations on religion and belief as well as specialised consultancy services

  • we provide advice and information on services and resources relating to religion and equal opportunities

  • we stimulate debate about the wider issues of faith and values at work and in commercial life

  • we think innovatively about religious equality in the workplace, recognising both challenges and opportunities

the business of faith approach is rooted in a commitment to equal opportunities. It aims to raise awareness of new legal protections on religion or belief as part of an umbrella of equal opportunities law, and to combine that with discussion of different systems of belief and possible sources of misunderstanding and discrimination.

In partnership with equality and diversity leaders, the project is developing a package of training and support which meets City needs and takes a practical, integrated approach to matters of religious belief and other areas of equality law.

In the City

The City of London serves as the workplace for thousands of people - people from different social, cultural and religious faith backgrounds.

As one of the world's leading financial centres, it is also a hub of international working collaborations and many global businesses.

Respect for, and understanding of, different religious and cultural orientations are therefore important to City businesses and enterprises in ensuring productive work environments at all levels.

It is also a matter of law. The Employment Equality (Religion or Belief) Regulations 2003 provide protection to workers from discrimination and harassment on the grounds of religious belief.
